The Greatest Things My Parents Gave Me
By Ron Meyer / Poem
The greatest things my parents gave me, weren’t really things at all.
Things like love and encouragement and a hug when I’d fall.
They taught me to think and pointed me straight;
to love and respect, to honor, not hate.
To stand up for what’s right and lay down what’s wrong;
These are some things that made me strong.
They taught me to work hard and play just the same;
With God there’s a balance, it’s not just a game.
When we live like this, there is no wasted time;
I’ve learned to enjoy the leisure, and even the grind.
I am thankful for parents who taught the Golden Rule,
How to do unto others as you want done unto you.
Things like integrity, honesty, love and respect,
honor your elders, live up to what He would expect.
They taught godly principles even before they knew God.
They somehow knew to respect Him as they trodded His sod.
I think these foundations helped me to see,
That life here on earth is more than about me.
I came to know Jesus as Savior and Lord,
As I learned of His ways, my spirit just soared.
I yearned for my parents to see His great love,
And one day they saw it, revelation from above.
I think all along they knew what was right,
Jesus is Savior, He is the light.
I am so grateful for what my parents gave,
They laid the foundation for me to get saved.
My sister too, it completes the ring.
Jesus is Lord, yes, Jesus is King.
Now to the next generations, my parents still give.
Their heritage lives on, in the lives we now live.
May we bring them great honor, as we are faithful and true,
to the One True God who sent His Son for me and you.
With a faith unwavering, I will not fall.
The greatest things my parents gave me weren’t really things at all.
